about

Amylia Grace has been blogging seriously since 2006, and is an accomplished writer and English scholar, an internationally published poet, and an award-winning public school teacher and writing instructor from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Amylia and her twin were diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in childhood but never let diabetes stop them from living their dreams. On the contrary, it helps drive Amylia to excel and motivates her to stay healthy in order to squeeze every last drop of joy out of life!

Amylia believes having diabetes has helped her develop empathy and appreciate the little victories in life as much as the big ones. Knowing tomorrow isn't promised to anyone has helped push her to pursue her passions with fervor.

Amylia advocates for using one's diabetes (or any obstacle) as a catalyst to help you in living a life of purpose, on purpose--and says it starts with the decision to accept and try to embrace all of life with arms (and heart) (and mind) wide open.

Amylia uses her writing and her life to remind her readers and students (and herself!) how to be successful at living a life of purpose, on purpose. It starts with a simple commitment to three things:
  1. Taking small action steps every day.
  2. Letting go of that which no longer serves you.
  3. Keeping a child-like wonder about life.
For more tips on how to live a healthy life of purpose on purpose, see "more words" or the archives from her award-winning blog, "One Type One or hop on over to HealthCentral to peruse Amylia's SharePosts. Amylia's students know her to be dedicated, caring and down-to-earth. They appreciate the humor and passion she brings to her lessons on writing and life. She's taught English to tribal girls in rural India, budding scientists and engineers in Taiwan, inner-city high schoolers in Milwaukee, and first generation college students from southeastern Wisconsin.

Several of her students have gone on to win awards and have their writing published in local papers. Amylia's most recent publications are updated on the right sidebar of the main page.
